Fostering saves millions of animals every year.

An estimated 7.6 million animals enter America’s shelters every year, and 2.7 million are euthanized. Most animal shelters have limited space and resources. Consequently, the dogs in their care often have a narrow survival window. When you invite a homeless pet into your home, it opens up a kennel, allowing the shelter to rescue another dog in need. Fostering also helps prepare animals for adoption by giving them a chance to live in a home where the can fully express their personality, work to overcome fears, or recover from trauma.

Some say they could never foster a pet because it would be too hard to say goodbye when the pet is adopted, however, consider the alternative. It may be difficult to say goodbye to the dog you have bonded with, but it is important to remember that by opening your home, you are saving a life — and each pet you foster is a new life saved. You become a hero.

6dogrees Rescue provides food, crates, leashes, collars and tags, harnesses, and other essentials for use while you are fostering; we also cover all medical expenses for the dog.   You provide the love.
